The 2016 New York Community Trust Nonprofit Excellence Awards Presentation and Best Practices Workshop was held Friday, December 2nd at the New York Academy of Medicine.  The event is one of the largest nonprofit regional gatherings and this year was no different.

New Overtime Regulations ON HOLD

As you may have heard, a federal Judge has temporarily blocked the implementation of the new Overtime Final Rule, originally set to begin on December 1, 2016. In this case, the Judge found that the Department of Labor exceeded its authority in adding a salary test to the existing duties test when determining eligibility for overtime.

Disclosure Obligations by Federal Grantees (FAR v. OMB)

As a matter of best practice, nonprofits should disclose credible evidence of any violations of any federal criminal law to the Office of Inspector General of their grant-making agency in accordance with the higher standard required under the Federal Acquisition Regulation, despite only being legally required to provide actual violations under the Uniform Guidance.

DOL Final Rule on Paid Sick Leave for Employees of Federal Contractors

The DOL Final Rule on sick leave for federal contracts will NOT apply to most nonprofits because grants and cooperative agreements are not covered. However, as the Rule does apply to subcontracts, nonprofits should review their sources of federal funding to ensure that they are not covered.

2016 New York Community Trust Nonprofit Excellence Awards

The 2016 New York Community Trust Nonprofit Excellence Awards are underway in partnership with The Trust and Philanthropy New York, sponsored by WNYC, and supported by The Clark Foundation and RSM US.

The Awards provide applicants with an in-depth review of their management practices in Eight Key Areas of Nonprofit Excellence that are nationally-recognized.

CRE Announces 2016 CRE Rising Fund Awardees

Community Resource Exchange (CRE) announced the five nonprofit awardees of the CRE Rising Fund, a pro bono consulting initiative now in its second year. The awardees cover a broad range of impact areas, from services for Muslim women and children and the LGBQT community, to entrepreneurship and emerging technology education programs.
