On January 16, 2024, Mayor Adams released the January Budget Plan and $109.4 billion fiscal year 2025 Preliminary Budget.
Our Vice President of Policy, Chai Jindasurat-Yasui, testified at New York City's City Council Hearing on the Mayor's November Financial Plan this past Monday, December 11, 2023. He represented the over 250 nonprofits (as of 12/13/23) who have signed on to our open letter to the City government to oppose Mayor Eric Adams's 15 percent budget cuts as part of our #WHY15 campaign.

On October 19, Nonprofit New York’s Coalition to Advance Nonprofits (CAN) convened a meeting with Councilmember Althea Stevens to discuss Mayor Adams’s 15% budget cut directive. Over 80 members shared their experiences. In the midst of preparing for across-the-board agency cuts, many voiced frustration with continued contract payment delays from the city.
Read a letter signed by 10 nonprofit umbrella organizations, including Nonprofit New York, respectfully urging Governor Hochul to sign S.5806 /A.6940. The bill would authorize non-membership not-for-profit corporations to classify their boards through their bylaws under the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law, aligning the law with current recommended board governance practice.
