About the Awards
Managed by the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York, The New York Community Trust, and media sponsored by WNYC, the Nonprofit Excellence Awards program recognize innovative and replicable nonprofit management practices, and gives organizations a free 360-degree review of their management strategies in NPCC's newly-revised key performance areas: the Key Areas of Nonprofit Excellence.
NPCC created the Nonprofit Excellence Awards in 2006 to teach, recognize and encourage outstanding management practices among New York's large and diverse nonprofit community. The Awards highlight the enormously important roles played by thousands of New York's nonprofit organizations in improving our lives and communities. The program helps nonprofit leaders by spotlighting excellent management practices that enable nonprofits to better serve their communities and achieve their missions.
A comment from a past participant:
"The application process is almost more important than the award. The process of learning how to make your organization better, and the opportunity to examine and reexamine how you're operating, yields so many benefits, from cost effective programs, to happier colleagues, to improved systems, to staff retention, and more."
- Stephanie Nilva, executive director at Day One
