Melkis Alvarez-Baez | Acting President

Melkis Alvarez-Baez | Acting President

Melkis Alvarez-Baez joined Nonprofit New York in 2011 as Associate Director for Special Programs and became Director of Programs in 2014. As COO, Melkis oversees all of Nonprofit New York’s internal operations. Prior to Nonprofit New York, Melkis worked with Advocates for Children of New York, a nonprofit working to protect every child's right to an education. Melkis is a member of Job Path’s Board of Directors, Program Committee Chair of Advocates for Children’s Junior Board, and Co-Chair of the Professional Development Committee of the NYC Alumni Committee of Harvard’s Center for Public Interest Careers. Melkis has served as a Team Leader for the New York Women’s Foundation’s Grants Advisory Committee. Melkis is a graduate of Harvard College and the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy.


Matthew Cheng | Development Manager

Matthew Cheng joined Nonprofit New York in August 2016 as Development Coordinator, and was promoted to Development Manager in October 2018. As Development Manager, he coordinates Nonprofit New York's fundraising efforts by cultivating and maintaining relationships with the corporations, foundations and individuals that support Nonprofit New York's programs. Matthew holds his M.A. in Media, Culture, and Communication from NYU. He and his partner have a French bulldog named Dim Sum.


Chai Jindasurat | Policy Director

Chai Jindasurat | Policy Director

Chai Jindasurat joined Nonprofit New York in March 2019 as Policy Director. Prior to joining Nonprofit New York, Chai served as a Senior Policy Analyst in the Mayor's Office of Management and Budget (OMB), a Public Policy Fellow at the Citizens Budget Commission, and directed national policy work at the New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project. While at OMB, Chai was given a Volunteer Service Award by the Budget Director for creating OMB's first Employee Resource Group (ERG) for LGBTQ and ally staff. Chai currently serves as a financial management Teaching Colleague at New York University's Wagner School of Public Service, where he obtained his MPA as a David Bohnett fellow and Point Scholar, the national LGBTQ scholarship fund. Chai also holds a BFA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Stacie Man joined Nonprofit New York in November 2019 as the Office & Events Associate. Stacie brings with her a wealth of experience in both education and nonprofits. Prior to joining Nonprofit New York, Stacie was an Events Manager for the Greater Charlotte Apartment Association in Charlotte, NC, a nonprofit that supported Charlotte’s multi-family housing industry. Stacie holds a B.A. in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She and her husband have two cats, Molly and Tony Man.

Lakimja Mattocks joined Nonprofit New York as the Chief Programs Officer in January 2020. Lakimja comes to us from Support Center, where she was the Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships and Learning. At Support Center, she was in charge of overseeing the Professional Development portfolio which included their public workshops, customized trainings, Leadership Certificate Programs and Leadership Collaborative Cohort. Prior to joining the Support Center, Lakimja spent ten years in youth and staff development with a focus on youth leadership through service learning, college preparedness and access, work readiness, situational leadership and coaching. She possesses a Master’s in Public Administration with a focus in Non Profit Management from Baruch College, loves to volunteer in the area of College Access and holds Alumni Leadership roles with her beloved alma mater, Temple University.


Alexa Salamé | Learning & Resources Manager

Alexa joined Nonprofit New York in 2017 as Executive and Board Coordinator and later became Programs Coordinator before settling into her most recent role as the Learning & Resources Manager. In her time at Nonprofit New York, she has worked to support the Executive Team, the Board of Directors, and the Programs Department. Alexa comes to Nonprofit New York with a background in the arts, having worked as a theatrical producer and artist. She holds a degree from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.


Taïna Sanon | Membership Director

Taïna Sanon joined Nonprofit New York in October 2017 as the Membership Manager before recently being promoted to Member Director. In her role, she aims to strategize, envision and implement membership programming and services according to Nonprofit New York’s strategic plan goals. Prior to joining the Nonprofit New York team, Taïna worked for Free Arts NYC and the Brooklyn Historical Society. She is passionate about community building and being a connector for individuals and organizations who want to network and collaborate in order to become stronger as a whole. Taïna holds a degree from NYU's Stern School of Business.


Devon Stein | Programs Coordinator

Devon Stein joined Nonprofit New York as Programs Coordinator in March 2020. Previously, she completed a term as an AmeriCorps VISTA at The Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA), a community-based organization in Astoria, Queens, that provides services to immigrant families. She continued her impact-driven work as a Research Assistant in higher education policy at MDRC, and most recently as a Fundraising Associate at Koszyn & Company. Devon holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Rutgers University.


Celine Yip | Research & Data Coordinator

Celine Yip | Research & Data Coordinator

Celine Yip joined Nonprofit New York as the Research & Data Coordinator in January 2020. Celine recently finished her Fulbright program in China, where she researched sex education for Chinese students. Previously, Celine has worked, interned, and volunteered at nonprofits which served a variety of populations including LGBTQ+ homeless youth, older adults, and juvenile youth. She studied social work and policy at Columbia University and Pacific University. Celine is a huge fan of playing tabletop games, video games, and reading comics! She's always up for a game of Magic Maze or Codenames.
