About The Sato Project

 

The Sato Project (TSP) is a New York-based non-profit organization dedicated to saving abused and abandoned dogs in Puerto Rico, and working for long-term change on the island through our Spay/Neuter/Vaccine and Microchip Program. We rescue and rehabilitate the dogs before flying them to NYC, where we find them forever homes. We have rescued over 7,500 dogs since our inception in 2011, and our work has been covered by national and international media outlets including the New York Times, NPR, and CNN. Position Description

 

The Sato Project is currently seeking a full time Development Manager to join our small but mighty, dynamic, and passionate team. This fundraising professional will develop and sustain a diverse funding stream to support our critical rescue, rehabilitation and community outreach operations in Puerto Rico. 

 

Our ideal candidate will support the organization by cultivating and stewarding donors of all levels, including current and prospective major donors, institutions and foundations.  This candidate will be resourceful, tech-savvy and detail-oriented, as well as a great communicator with a keen eye for detail.

 

This full-time, salaried, hybrid position requires physical presence of at least two days per week in our office in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn. Attendance at occasional evening and weekend events in the NY/NJ/CT area is also required as well as some travel to Puerto Rico.

 

The Development Manager reports to the Director of Operations with a dotted line to the President and Founder, and directly supervises one full-time Development Associate. Qualifications:

 

  • Superior communication skills, including the ability to write well, to speak effectively in groups large and small and in one-on-one conversations, and the ability and willingness to listen actively and attentively.  

 

  • Superior relationship-building skills, both internally and externally, are an absolute requirement and a record of success must be exhibited.  This includes the ability to engage in frequent and intentional face-to-face donor interaction

 

  • Minimum of three to five years of fundraising experience.

 

  • Prior experience in animal welfare is a plus; a passion for TSP’s mission to rescue, rehabilitate and create real change for the people and animals of Puerto Rico is a MUST.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Identifying, maintaining and growing major gift opportunities from active and previous donors which includes individuals, foundations, and for profit entities.

 

  • Grow a major gifts program and develop new revenue streams identifying new prospects and funding opportunities, including ongoing multi-year grant support from institutions and foundations.

 

  • Lead the research and writing of grant LOIs, proposals and reports, with a focus on renewing and increasing foundation and corporate support.

 

  • Provide guidance to the Board of Directors for their managed major donor relationships.

 

  • Work with Communications Manager & Development Associate to create diversified fundraising opportunities in support of all organizational campaigns and across website & social media platforms, email listserv, and print. 

 

  • Oversee Development Associate and their slate of responsibilities. 

SALARY: $60,000 + fully paid health insurance, paid holidays, sick, and PTO
