The Position:
The Part-time Research and Data Associate (20 hours/week) will work closely with ANHD’s Senior Research and Data Associate in the Policy Department. We seek someone who is excited to manage the quality of and improvements to our DAP Portal data tool, engage a broad user base – including tenant organizers, service providers, attorneys, and constituent services staff of elected officials – in trainings and to seek feedback, and collaborate with our external web developers. Additionally, this person will be responsible for conducting data analysis in R and less frequently, other programs/languages as needed.
While the position is currently part-time, there is the possibility for a future full-time position as funding allows.
Salary:
The salary range for this part-time position at 20 hours per week is $34,000-$38,000, depending on experience.
Responsibilities:
- Project management of DAP Portal housing data tool: ensure maintenance and quality, support a redesign process, communicate needs to web developers, develop training materials, facilitate trainings, and seek feedback from users to improve the tool
- Produce annual data products such as the Housing Risk Chart and AMI Cheat Sheet
- Effectively communicate and publish research and analysis findings in the context of ANHD’s policy, advocacy, and organizing priorities
- Conduct ad hoc data analysis and research as needed for communications such as social media, blogs, reports, and press, as well as testimony and internal communications
- Participate in staff-wide activities, work, and professional development
Requirements:

- Technical proficiency to execute data analysis as well as the critical thinking and communication skills to translate research findings into real-world, accessible language within a policy, advocacy, and organizing context
- Familiarity/comfort with R for data analysis and the ability to learn new tools and languages as needed. Knowledge of Excel/Sheets, SQL, GIS, data visualization, and visual design are also valued.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Highly organized with strong project management skills
- A background in user experience/user interface (UX/UI), user research, and/or design is additionally helpful but not required.
- Commitment to New York City’s neighborhoods, and respect for non-for-profit community development corporations, community organizing, and grassroots organizations
- Commitment to racial equity, and comfort applying a racial justice equity lens to data, research, and policy work as well as interpersonal professional interactions and relationships
Timeline:
We will review applicants on a rolling basis with the goal of the Research and Data Associate starting in September.
Location Requirements:
This position will either be hybrid or remote, depending on the candidate’s availability and preference. Candidates who are located in the New York City area are preferred.
