POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: AFTER SCHOOL GYM TEACHER 2023-24

 

The Saint Ann’s School After School Gym Teacher is a part-time position:  2:45 pm–5:15 pm 4 days/week for the 2023-24 school year, September 1st-June 10th. The After School Gym teachers will work with students in Kindergarten-5th grade, teaching and leading team building games, sports drills and general physical education in the Gym or on the Rooftop Playground. After School Gym teachers work with the Director of the After School program and After School Teachers/Coordinators to support and engage students, uphold the values and goals of the after-school program, lead the program’s community standards for conduct and behavior and enforce safety and health regulations.  All After School teachers report directly to the Director of After School and assist the Director in supervising students and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the after school program.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Supervise groups of students during program hours 

  • Supervise students’ play in the Gym and outdoor play, supporting safe and healthy risk-taking and social interaction.

  • Collaborate with the Director of After School and Afterschool Coordinators, and at times Division Heads, to establish and maintain a warm and dynamic community in which all children feel an authentic sense of belonging and excitement about the process of learning and playing together. 

  • Maintain a productive, happy classroom environment and classroom routines. 

  • Support children’s social and emotional growth through developmentally appropriate and responsive practices. 

  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with every member of the community: students, families, and colleagues alike. 

  • Maintain reliable communication with the Director of After School to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

  • Uphold and model our enhanced hygiene protocols.

  • Daily check-ins with the Director and Coordinators regarding scheduling.

  • Oversee daily attendance and dismissal to parents/caregivers.

  •  Maintain certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.

  • Incorporate a variety of teaching methods to accommodate multiple learning styles.

  •  Use positive motivation to create a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment which fosters

Self-esteem and team building. 

  •  Develop and conduct progressive lesson and unit plans which accommodate the range of skill levels in the class. 

  • Create a joyful, stimulating learning experience in which to engage the students.

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • A love of children.

  • Responsible, punctual, and professional

  • Experience working with children required (this can include teaching but could also mean experience as a camp counselor, babysitter or caregiver).

  • Though not required, teaching and coaching experience as well as an undergraduate degree in Physical Education is preferred.

  • Experience playing on a high school or college team is preferred

  •  Demonstrate an understanding of the purpose and value of physical fitness and wellness.

  • A strong passion for sharing your love of movement and physical activity with students of all ages is essential

COMPENSATION 


This is a part time, non-exempt faculty position with an hourly rate of $35.00. Benefits are available at our part time rate.
