OurBrainBank (OBB) is a socially committed start-up dedicated to turning the deadliest form of brain tumor, glioblastoma (GBM), from a terminal disease to a treatable one, powered by patients. OBB was founded by Jessica Morris following her diagnosis with GBM, and in five years has grown to have an international presence, with branches in the US and UK. Jessica died last year but her vision, her determination to defeat the disease, and her extraordinary non-profit creation live on through the work of OBB’s highly engaged and capable Trustees and Directors.

OurBrainBank seeks to be the voice of the GBM community, giving patients and caregivers and their networks a collective power to demand change. Currently, OBB is developing, in partnership with world-leading data scientists and neuro-oncologists at Harvard, a groundbreaking patient app that will boost research and provide insights into individualized treatments and care. OBB has also pioneered the first ever GBM Bill of Rights, a guide for cancer centers and providers and a campaigning tool to channel patients’ desire for urgent action to find new treatments and speed up the search for a cure. In these ways, we aim to give patients and their loved one’s direct agency in their medical journey.

Executive / Managing Director
OBB is looking for a dynamic, energetic, imaginative, and entrepreneurial leader to take the organization to the next level. If you are interested in a high-impact executive leadership role, this is your chance to apply your skills and experience to take a small non-profit start-up with big ambitions to exciting new places.

As OBB’s Director, you will be working with patients and families as they face the challenge of their lives, growing OBB’s community and engaging them with practical and meaningful information, interactions, and campaigns.

You will be deploying your fundraising skills and campaigning passion to make OBB sustainable and impactful for the future, building our links to major pharma and philanthropic donors as well as with our devoted individual donors. You will also have the skills and connections needed to generate viable funding streams to support OBB’s mission.

You will be engaging with scientists and doctors who are at the forefront of global efforts to combat this deadly disease, driving ahead with OBB’s groundbreaking project with Harvard scientists and doctors to create a new patient data app using passive data drawn from smartphones to develop research potentials from the data, as well as to formulate individualized patient treatments.

You will lead and manage OBB’s small but capable team of contract staff, growing and developing the team as OBB expands.

OBB has a dynamic panel of medical advisers drawn from world experts in neuro-oncology, neuro-surgery, radiation-oncology, genetics, and clinical research. You will engage OBB’s medical advisors, enabling them to guide our scientific approaches and ambitions. You will also explore partnerships with pharma companies and other brain tumor, cancer and wider health nonprofits.

OBB’s committed US and UK boards of directors and trustees will be there to help and support you, and you will work with them to formulate strategic plans to take its vision to the next stage. With the boards you will oversee our budget and legal, tax and regulatory compliances.

Our ideal candidate will be passionate about OBB’s vision and values, as well as the power that comes from unleashing the energy of patients and caregivers, the urgent need for better treatments, the groundbreaking potential of patient data and new forms of research.

Highly-qualified candidates will have at least 7 years of progressive and relevant experience, including a proven track record of success in the non-profit sector, start-ups, or other relevant bodies. A master’s degree in business, public administration, or health services administration is preferred.

Salary and other considerations
Salary will be highly competitive and commensurate with experience. Compensation will also include a bonus element tied to clear targets in priority areas.

Next Steps:
Please submit your resume (or LinkedIn profile) and a cover letter describing your connection to and passion for OBB’s vision and values and outlining why you are the right leader for OBB now. Please include preferred work locations, as well as compensation expectations, in the form of total compensation and benefits requirements. Submissions will be considered on a rolling basis.
