TITLE: Communications & Marketing Manager

 

REPORTS TO: Chief Operations Officer; President as necessary

 

BASIC FUNCTION:  Nonprofit New York’s Communications & Marketing Manager is a clear, direct, highly-motivated person with at least four years of nonprofit communications experience. The Communications Manager actively leads our team in efforts to strengthen our brand and improve our visibility and reach through online and offline channels.

With a Board representing all key nonprofit subsectors, and a full-time staff of ten plus one part-time employee, Nonprofit New York operates on a budget of $2.3 million per year. We launched our new name and brand in May 2019. In 2017, Nonprofit New York (then NPCC) announced an ambitious strategic plan with three primary goals: member building, movement building, and a stronger Nonprofit New York. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

 

STRATEGY & BRAND DEVELOPMENT

 

  • Develop and manage Nonprofit New York’s communications and marketing strategy to promote and advance Nonprofit New York’s robust member building and movement building work 

  • Lead the strategy to implement and promote Nonprofit New York’s brand in all communications and marketing 

  • Develop trainings, resources, and toolkits to support a consistent brand and voice in all of Nonprofit New York’s communications

  • Develop and maintain internal and external trust and support to achieve Nonprofit New York’s mission and goals through building relationships with media, vendors, and other organizations

  • Work with leadership to identify media opportunities and implement campaigns around key programs and issues

  • Serve as primary media contact and manage press outreach, inquiries, visits, and interviews

  • Develop and manage marketing strategy for Nonprofit New York’s Space Ads and Job Board, while working closely with staff to identify growth and revenue opportunities

 

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

 

  • Lead and manage all communications projects (e.g. editorial calendar, campaigns, advertising, branding initiatives, etc.), including setting timelines, assigning roles, facilitating meetings, and liaising with external service providers as needed

  • Lead communications strategies on any internal communications campaigns and/or projects, as developed by program staff

  • Work with the team to create strategic marketing campaigns; develop analytics to measure success and continually find ways to improve on those metrics through testing and new initiatives

  • Work with leadership to identify challenges and solutions to move organization-wide communications initiatives forward

 

CONTENT CREATION & MANAGEMENT

 

  • Manage and support creation of all print and electronic materials, including: monthly newsletters for membership and policy; regular program emails; templates, and other visuals of Nonprofit New York’s work; event announcements and signage

  • Manage Nonprofit New York’s social media presence, including content creation and reporting on data and trends 

  • Manage Nonprofit New York’s website, including content updates related to programming and events, with Nonprofit New York’s external website vendor 

  • Measure and report on the effectiveness of communications activities, engagement levels, and progress

Assist with other internal and external communications duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Skills & Experience

 

  • At least 4 years of professional work experience in a similar role

  • Demonstrated experience with project management involving other team members

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal 

  • Experience with online marketing tools, social media platforms, and publishing software

  • Experience with email campaign management

  • Experience with email automation, Salesforce, and WordPress are a plus

  • Understanding of nonprofit management, infrastructure, and capacity building a plus

SALARY: $58,500 per year. Excellent working environment and generous benefits (health insurance, dental, vision, vacation, sick, holidays, 401k retirement with 200% match contributions).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position is primarily a sedentary role. However, the person in this position may need to occasionally move about inside the office to liaise with internal staff, access files, office machinery and a copy machine/printer.
