THE SEARCH

The New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM), a leading voice for innovation in public health, seeks a Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration (SVP). NYAM champions bold changes in the existing systems and policies that cause health disparities and keep all communities from attaining optimal health through generating critical knowledge, leveraging symposia for health professionals, and engaging the public through its high-profile programming. The new SVP will be a proactive, collaborative, and strategic leader, a superb communicator with a commitment to transparency, and have a substantial record of non-profit management and administrative leadership commensurate with running a complex, multifaceted, and nimble organization.

The mission of NYAM spans policy leadership, clinical medicine, public health advocacy, innovative and community-centered research, evaluation of health programming, education, and public engagement. Its work is accomplished in collaboration with numerous partners, including community-based organizations, public health and healthcare providers, academia, governmental agencies, and its dedicated, elected Fellows and Members from health-related professions.

Ann Kurth, PhD, MPH, MSN, CNM, FAAN, FACNM, became President of NYAM in January 2023, the first epidemiologist to lead NYAM in its 176-year history.

Assets and income include an investment portfolio of over $56 million, grants and contracts awarded over the past five years totaling $27.5 million, one of the most distinguished libraries of the history of medicine and public health in the world, and NYAM’s iconic building on Museum Mile in New York City. NYAM’s annual budget is $13 million.

Reporting to the President and a key member of her leadership team, the SVP oversees finance, facilities management, HR, IT, and the Conference Center. As the chief steward of NYAM’s financial resources and operations, the SVP will leverage and build upon the organization’s accomplishments and legacy, provide vision and a long-term strategic perspective to finance and operations, ensure adequate funding for strategic priorities, embrace transparency and collaboration, ensure optimal systems, and empower and support a dedicated, talented staff. The SVP will be an active and contributing member of the NYAM community.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned, innovative, and accomplished financial and administrative leader with experience in the not-for-profit setting, a comprehensive understanding of the trends and best practices in financial and administrative operations and systems, and a record of success developing and executing a long-term strategy in support of key strategic priorities and initiatives. In addition, the ideal candidate must be an excellent communicator with exceptional relationship-building skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively and collegially in a diverse, mission-driven organization.
