Job Description

The Communications Associate will serve as a core member of our Communications team and work closely with the Communications and Marketing Manager and Communications Coordinator. With guidance from the Communications and Marketing Manager, the Communications Associate is responsible for ensuring organizational effectiveness and consistent messaging by providing support and leadership for the organization’s overall communications goals and strategy and various programs for girls, young women, and non-binary youth.

 

Responsibilities

As a Communications Associate, you can expect your role to typically involve some or all of the following:

 

 Internal communications support:

 

        Establish an internal communications strategy in conjunction with Directors, Communications and Marketing Manager, Program Managers, and other staff

        Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders

        Plan, edit, and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as Constant Contact

        Use social media to communicate with staff internally

        Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organization

        Ensure internal communication messages are consistent with external communication messages

        Organize data, content, and documents on Google Drive for internal use

                                Respond to feedback from staff and adjust communications content accordingly

External communications support:

 

        Establish an external communications strategy in conjunction with Directors, Communications and Marketing Manager, Program Managers, and other staff to effectively engage with a larger, broader and more culturally diverse audience.

 

        With review by Communications and Marketing Manager, design and distribute all mass email communications via our newsletters and updates sent through SendlnBlue and Constant Contact to ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to the public

 

        With the support of the Communications and Marketing Manager and Communications Coordinator, design, plan, edit, and write content for social media platforms such as lnstagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok, and Linkedln

 

        With guidance from senior staff, serve as point-of-contact for press including writing

 

        releases, coordinating press events, pitching stories, and responding to press inquiries, requests for interviews, and filming

 

        Coordinate efforts to cultivate and manage relationships with key media partners.

 

                                      Respond to feedback from staff and adjust communications content accordingly

 

 Program support:

 

        Support online and in-person events by participating in event planning, carrying out marketing/communications plans, and providing day-of event support

 

                                Downloading, editing, and uploading event recordings to YouTube or on line storage space                 for internal use

 

        Taking photographs and videos for internal purposes and social media purposes at numerous in-person events throughout the year

 

Key Skills

Digital skills: Familiarity with information technology, especially digital and video means of communication, is essential. Exceptional knowledge and knowhow of standard communications tools such as Capcut, Adobe Suite and Canva (or similar software and tools) is required.

           Writing skills: Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the journalistic ability to                source stories from employees and our community.

           Interpersonal skills: Interpersonal and relationship-building skills and ability to collaborate with                       senior executives and managers and share your ideas, perspectives, and feedback with them.

          Creative skills: Creative ability to devise communication strategies, conceptualize visual                                      information and create imagery that moves the department forward.

Compensation: $30/hr 20 hrs per week
