Position Overview 

The Communications Associate is a key member of Brooklyn Community Foundation’s Communications team. Duties and responsibilities support marketing and public relations efforts to increase awareness of the Foundation’s mission, grantmaking impact, donor services, and to advance our commitment to racial justice and overall vision for a fair and just Brooklyn.  

This is a full-time based in Brooklyn and reports to the Communications Manager. 

Responsibilities: 

Assists with the development and implementation of the Foundation’s overall communications strategy and strategic plan with the internal team, partner agencies, and/or external consultants across the department. 

Marketing and Design: Coordinates and contributes to the Foundation’s design work, as it relates to creating social media graphics, videos, promotional material for departmental events and projects, reports, websites, etc. 

Website: Responsible for keeping the Foundation’s website content updated (text and graphics) and supports the Communications Manager on quarterly analytics reporting. Contributes to writing for the Foundation’s blog. 

Email: Helps manage monthly content calendar and drafting and sending newsletters. Work with the team to develop and execute list-building strategies.  

Social Media: Helps execute our social media strategy, creates social posts and social media templates, manages social media for live events, develops social media fundraising and community engagement campaigns. 

Analytics: Maintains communications dashboard, including quarterly analytics and metrics on email, website, and social media audience engagement.  

Video + Photo: Captures and edits video and photo content for website, email, publications, and social. Coordinates photography and/or video for/of events, use in publications, media, etc. and ensures appropriate releases are signed and filed. Manages photo library and video archive, coordinates scheduling with external photographers, and keeps track of photographer crediting and photo/video usage rights. 

Events: Assists with coordination of community engagement events, PR activities, fundraising campaigns, donor briefings, and public programming (both in person and virtual). 

Publications: Assists with the writing, editing, and printing of Foundation reports, including the annual impact report. 

Key Projects: Supports the development and rollout of the Foundation’s new branding and website in 2023. 

Administration: Handles meeting notes, responds to requests for information, provides Zoom webinar support, manages email audiences, updates Salesforce contact information, and supports internal communications across departments.  

Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of two years related work experience preferred; 
  • Organized and detail-oriented with strong writing skills, design aptitude, and great familiarity with social media (particularly Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn); 
  • Experience and ease with Canva and other graphic design platforms such as Adobe Photoshop; 
  • Basic video editing skills (Adobe Premiere, iMovie, or similar software) 
  • Experience with social media analytics, including Google Analytics, Hootsuite analytics, or similar 
  • Experience with Mailchimp or similar email marketing software 
  • Basic experience with Salesforce or other CRM 
  • Experience with HTML, Drupal and/or WordPress 
  • Proficient with Google Drive and Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; 
  • Strong racial justice competency; 
  • Collaborative team player and problem solver with a willingness to learn; 
  • Interest in community philanthropy and community engagement; 
  • Understanding of and appreciation for Brooklyn’s communities;  
  • Ability to work effectively with and communicate to our diverse audience of donors, nonprofits, and community partners; 

Salary: 

Salary Range: $55,000 – $60,000 annually

Currently, full-time employees are required to come into the office 3 days a week.
