The Position:
ANHD is seeking a Program Coordinator for Energy & Housing Justice to support ANHD’s growing sustainability work by providing outreach, engagement, and technical assistance to affordable housing developers around energy efficiency incentives.
The Program Coordinator will work with ANHD staff, partner organizations, our non-profit members, and other experts and lived practitioners in the field to help ensure affordable housing units and buildings are renovated and built with new sustainability regulations and needs.
Salary Range: Mid-Level – $60,000 – $75,000/ Senior Level – $70,000 – $90,000. Compensation depending on experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The selected candidate will join ANHD’s Capacity Building team and will also collaborate with members of the Organizing/Advocacy teams. The position’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
● Support overall program development and implementation as this is a new ANHD work area in development.
● Responsible for outreach and education to non-profit multi-family property owners, Low-to-Moderate Income (LMI) tenants, and managers about sustainability incentives available to them.
- General communication to non-profit developers to inform & educate them of energy-efficient incentives and opportunities.
- Conduct individual outreach to non-profit developers to provide targeted guidance on energy efficient incentives they qualify for.
- Create / support the creation of education materials for Low-to-Moderate income tenants to better understand & engage with sustainability incentives and partner with local organizers to disseminate information.
- Build and maintain an outreach/engagement tracking system of nonprofit housing developers and related contacts.
● Support ANHD’s capacity building efforts including:
- Host regular open house sessions for nonprofit developers to inform them on sustainability opportunities.
- Host expert-led capacity building workshops to help non-profit developers better understand sustainability incentives and landscape.
- Develop and facilitate yearly or biannual workshops to increase working knowledge of sustainability best practices related to planning and land use for community organizations and LMI tenants.
● Provide technical assistance for sustainability incentive applications.
- Stay up to date on all available NYC, NYS and other applicable sustainability incentives and finance packages to inform scope of work for nonprofit developers.
- Offer targeted technical assistance to support nonprofit developers in committing to and securing available incentives.
- Create an accessible toolkit for non-profit developers and tenant organizers highlighting sustainability initiatives.
- Act as a resource to customers to shepherd sustainability projects through to completion.
● Liaise with city-wide nonprofits and advocacy groups as ANHD’s sustainability representative:
- Attend regular group meetings for the Affordable Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program (AMEEP) and track/report progress on goals.
- Attend regular meetings for the Manhattan Regional Clean Energy Hub and track/report progress on goals.
- Act as a representative for sustainability initiatives through the Mayor’s Office of Climate & Environmental Justice as needed.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Highly organized with strong project management skills; experience supporting the growth of a new work/program area.
An understanding of the non-profit housing development field and its intersection with the sustainability field.
Experience with outreach and recruitment. Basic marketing and communications skills, including experience using social media outlets, Canva and other graphic design applications are a plus.
Knowledge of sustainability challenges and opportunities for New York City affordable housing developers.
Comfort liaising with nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, grassroots organizations, and external consultants.
Comfort working directly with nonprofit developers and building project managers.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
Commitment to New York City’s neighborhoods, and respect for non-for-profit community development corporations, community organizing, and grassroots organizations.
Commitment to racial equity, and comfort applying a racial justice equity lens to sustainability work as well as interpersonal professional interactions and relationships.
Other Skills Preferred:
- Experience working with community-based organizations and/or coalitions that serve marginalized communities, especially ANHD member organizations.
- Experience working with non-profit developers and building managers.
- Familiarity with Local Law 97 and other current NYS/NYC sustainability initiatives.
- Ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages.
- Experience with hosting trainings
- Experience with leading community events
LOCATION REQUIREMENTS: This position is Hybrid. Applicants will need to work from ANHD’s office in Lower Manhattan at least two days a week.
