Location and Overview:

Westchester Jewish Community Services is currently seeking a Controller to work in our Headquarters located in White Plains, NY. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy of the financial statements for a multi program complex non-profit. This position is currently hybrid.

WJCS, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1943 and has grown to be the largest provider of licensed outpatient community mental health services and one of the largest human service agencies in Westchester County. We provide state-of-the-art programs, services, and compassionate care to more than 20,000 people of all ages and backgrounds throughout Westchester County.

Responsibilities include:

• Supervises team including assistant controller, payroll supervisor, accountants, accounts payable and/or clerical personnel.

• Responsible for the daily operation of the accounting department including cash management, payroll, accounts payable, certain aspects of billing and general accounting.

• Manage the recording of permanent and temporarily restricted assets (donations) ensuring the funds are used within the donors’ intent.

• Prepare and coordinate the accounting/financial reporting close calendar, ensuring tasks are completed on a timely accurate basis.

• Prepare financial statements, statistical information and ad-hoc reports for management.

• Assist in the preparation of materials for Finance, Audit and Investment Committees.

• Maximize financial system (Intacct) functionality to implement efficiencies and post implementation enhancements.

• Manage annual audit and support preparation of CFR and preparation of schedules for the Form 990s for multiple nonprofit corporations.

• Provides advice and assistance to program based on accounting and financial data reports and trends within the framework of established accounting principles, theories, concepts and practices of a body of laws, rules or regulations.

• Assists other staff in the preparation and/or review of the annual budget.

• Develop, revise and document accounting policies and procedures.

• Develop and conduct training programs for staff.

The ideal candidate must possess:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and 10 years of accounting, auditing and financial management experience including at least 5 years supervisory experience.

• Previous experience in a non-profit organization with at least $30 million in annual revenues.

• Possess a thorough knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles, not for profit accounting and ability to apply established accounting principles.

• Proven ability to lead, train, delegate and supervise the work of others.

• Ability to efficiently prepare clear, concise financial reports and presentations on a timely basis.

• Ability to work independently, hands on detail oriented and well organized.

• Ability juggle competing priorities and meet deadlines.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to relate well with staff, supervisors, program managers, employees and others.

• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

• Strong computer skills and advanced proficiency in Financial systems (Intacct preferred), Microsoft Office Suite and Payroll (including time and attendance ADP preferred).

• Demonstrated history of integrity; resourcefulness; and initiative.

Salary Range:

• $125k-$140k/year
