Salary Range:

Beat the Streets (BTS), established in 2006, is a sport-based youth development organization whose mission is to develop the full human and athletic potential of urban youth and to strengthen the wrestling culture within New York City. BTS works with an average of 2,500 male and female student-athletes in all five boroughs, aged 10-18. Programs include the Academy, the Junior League, and the Training Center. In addition, BTS partners with the NYC Department of Education’s Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) that sponsors a boys and co-ed wrestling season in the winter and a girls wrestling season in the spring.

 

Summary: Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director, the Director of Programming  will play a critical  role in designing and overseeing programs that are outcome and impact driven. This person will oversee all aspects of BTS programs, including the Academy, Junior League, Training Center as well as the relationship with New York City’s Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL). 

 

Key Responsibilities:   

  • Lead and supervise the BTS  Academy
  • Incorporate social-emotional learning into all program activities
  • Manage all data collection and evaluation processes 
  • Assist in grant-writing process
  • Manage registration and reporting system, and run reports
  • Oversee annual program budgets
  • Supervise direct reports including BTS Director of Youth Programming, Head Boys and Girls coaches and AmeriCorps Vista Program Associate
  • Work closely with Director of Youth Programming and PSAL Wrestling Coordinator
  • Visit, evaluate, and assist middle school and high school wrestling programs
  • Regularly attend training and competition events provided by BTS and PSAL
  • Assist in event planning for competitions, camps, clinics, and enrichment sessions
  • Assist middle school and high school recruiting efforts
  • Commuting throughout New York City and on occasion, traveling to competitions outside of the city
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Nonprofit management experience (minimum three years in a leadership role with supervisory experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Highly organized with an attention to detail

  • Strong supervisory skills

  • Various certifications including CPR, First-Aid, Concussion Certified, Safe Sport (can complete upon being hired)    

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Familiarity with wrestling 

  • Experience working with diverse youth ages 11-18  

  • Familiarity with NYC public schools
