The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms around the world. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities. Nationally and internationally, the Center performs original research and provides consulting services to justice innovators.

We operate at the cutting edge of criminal justice reform in the New York area by developing, planning, launching, and managing large-scale projects that serve thousands of justice-involved people each year. Our projects include the award-winning Red Hook Community Justice Center, the Midtown Community Court, Bronx Community Solutions, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives, Staten Island Justice Center, and Newark Community Solutions. We also operate supervised release programs (as an alternative to bail) in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Staten Island; Project Reset, an early diversion program in Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn; young adult courts in Brooklyn and Manhattan; and a new felony alternative-to-incarceration program in Manhattan. Our criminal justice programs work with nearly 30,000 individuals each year—with the prospect of more in the days to come. 

 

 

The Center is looking for a bright, energetic self-starter to join the Center’s Criminal Justice team.  The Program Associate will work closely with a central team that develops, runs, and supports criminal justice programs.  The position will include substantive and administrative responsibilities and provides an opportunity to help shape criminal and juvenile justice policies and practices; work closely with the Center’s project directors and other key stakeholders, including judges, prosecutors, defense advocates and city and state officials; lead or participate in planning and fundraising efforts for new initiatives; support the team’s project management on new and existing projects; and develop a close knowledge of the Center’s internal programming and organizational structure.

 

 

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

·         Assist in the development and implementation of new initiatives throughout the city, such as early diversion programs, alternatives to incarceration, and community justice initiatives;

 

·         Support the Director of Criminal Justice in managing daily administrative and strategic operations, including tracking progress on a wide-range of initiatives;

 

·         Support and coordinate project management of ongoing and new projects within the Criminal Justice department, including convening and participating in internal project management meetings and providing administrative and organizational support;

 

·         Research and draft funder reports, grant proposals, policy papers and articles, and other materials for a wide range of internal and external audiences;

 

·         Design and implement protocols and procedures for new and existing initiatives;

 

·         Assist in developing and providing management support to existing programs and operations;

 

 

 

·         Draft reports and prepare presentations and materials for internal and external meetings; and

 

 

 

·         Provide administrative support for the Criminal Justice team including but not limited to assisting with organizing conference calls and in-person and virtual meetings; documenting meeting minutes and next steps; coordinating interviews; editing and formatting documents in Word and Excel; making travel arrangements; preparing expense reports; among other duties.

 

Qualifications:

 

·         The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (required) and one to two years of work experience in a related field (preferred).

 

·         Outstanding organization, written and verbal communications skills.

 

·         Must be able to work well with people from a wide range of personal and professional backgrounds.

 

·         Highly proficient with word processing and database programs (such as Microsoft Office and Excel).

 

·         Possess a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

 

·         Must work well with others.

 

Compensation: Salary range starts at $40,000; commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.
